Energy Savings Programs and Safety That Effect Our Planet

Caravan Ingredients commitment for a better world is demonstrated throughout our facilities. This is represented by the effects on our environment through our energy savings programs within the last several years. Our goal is to increase energy efficiencies by reducing utilities and omissions while taking advantage of cost effective transportation.

Energy Conservation

Dolton, IL- Energy efficiencies recognized on water, natural gas and electricity were accomplished through an automated controlled vacuum pump system which resulted in 29% reduction in water, 23% in natural gas and 7% in electricity. The environmental benefits associated with this new system reduced natural gas combustion by lowering air pollutants (NOx and CO). Additionally, the conservation of water directly reduced the effluent discharge stream and its associated regulatory charges.

Grandview, MO- Inefficient steam jet systems which consumed high levels of natural gas were replaced in the distilled monoglyceride plant to reduce utilities by 90%. Emissions ofCO2were reduced by 42% by manufacturing lactylates with NaOH instead ofNa2CO3.Fluorescent lighting with motion sensors and insulated liquid nitrogen lines contributed to energy conservation for 2006.

Totowa- T5 fluorescent lighting installed created a 12% reduction in green house gases while in 2007 installation of solar cells will generate a reduction in CO and capture state tax incentives.

Logistics- Intermodal transportation is a cost-effective means to transfer product through the utilization of two or more transportation modes. Intermodal methods in the past few years within supply chain have reduced transportation costs by burning less fuel and in turn, reducing the level of pollutants emitted.

Safety

Caravan Ingredients promise is to provide employees a safe environment by continually improving upon where we are at today. Our safety performance over the past few years has improved our OSHA rate overall from 18 to 5. Communication and commitment from each employee are the keys to our successful safety performance.
